Any effective alternative remedies for eczema (steroid creams arent working)?

Hi my 3 year old daughter has lovely clear skin until about a month ago and now all of a sudden she has eczema (lumpy, itchy red rash) all down her arms, legs and on her cheeks. She has been prescribed 1% hydrocortisone cream and Doublebase but both seem to be completely ineffective. The Doublebase in fact, often makes her skin look more %26#039;angry%26#039;.

I took her to the doctors (for the 4th time about her skin) today and she has been given antibiotics for an infection that has got into a cut on her knee and caused lumpy painful sores with whiteheads down her leg (she looks like a right scab bag! :-( ). I am hoping that the antibiotics may be the cure she needs and that she will go back to having the lovely skin she had before, once the weeks antibiotic course has finished.

The doctor today said that there are no other remedies for her skin other than the prescribed creams but she is so itchy and uncomfortable-which as i said, dont apper to be working. Does anyone know of any other remedies that may help or soothe her skin? (preferably cheap ones!) Look forward to some effective, constructive ideas, thanks|||Eczeme is one of those conditions that GPs tend to neglect. Its difficult to treat at times, but she should grow out of it in time. Sometimes the most effective treatments are the simplest. I had the same as a child and my mother followed a religious routine for several months which soon cleared it up -

Twice a day (morning and night) cover her from head to toe in a simple moisturiser. If the duprobase isnt working then ask your GP for another. But do not use E45. Only put a very small amount of steriod cream on the bits that look the worst. These creams tend to be overused and less effective if too much is used.

Then at least once a day bath her in Oilatum bath oil. Let her sit in it for at least 10 minutes. The key to this is moisture. You have to keep her skin moisturised.

As well as this you might find that changing washing powders ASWELL will help. Change to non-bio or a powder designed for new borns is great. Try to find Filetti. Its what I used.

On top of that avoid all perfumed products, and avoid soap like the plague! If you do all this, eventually it will get better. The key is consistancy. Do it all the time and you%26#039;ll notice the difference. Good Luck x|||SPRING WATER! Believe it or not!

%26quot;Spring water could help treat eczema when applied directly to the skin, according to new research.

Doctors have discovered that %26#039;harmless%26#039; bacteria found in thermal spring water really do improve itching and the appearance of skin.

Is it ok to take steroid pills, use steroid creams and take strong painkillers while pregnant?

My wife%26#039;s period is late and as we were not planning to conceive right now she has been taking regular steroid pills and using strong prescribed steroid cream on her hands. She also experiences terrible migraines at times and has taken strong painkillers, again prescribed, at least four times over the past month. We are concerned about what effect, if any, this could have on her pregnancy, which is obviously still in a very early stage. Any answers, or links to relevant pages, would be much appreciated.

I%26#039;ve been applying to foreskin and rubbing it in. I%26#039;ve also tried stretching. It%26#039;s been a few months now with little improvement. I%26#039;ve only been able to retract fully a couple of times, usually by accident during sex, but it feels extremely tight and uncomfortable. The head is also extremely sensitive... what should I do? Is circumcision my only option now?|||Circumcision is certainly not the only (or even necessarily the best) option.

Maybe you weren%26#039;t stretching it properly; see link 1 for some good instructions. It could also take 1-3 months for the stretching to work.

Maybe you should switch to a different cream, as there are many different kinds. It%26#039;s still the most cost-effective method for treating phimosis (link 2).

You can even try combining the stretching and the cream. Together they may work quicker and better than either one separately, though it may still take about a month. Just be patient.

But if all else fails, there are still other options (link 3). See the other links for some helpful info. Look at the last one in particular, it%26#039;s a blog by a guy who had a problem similar to yours and how he dealt with it.

By the way, the glans (penis head) is supposed to be really sensitive. But you can get used to that once you%26#039;re able to pull your foreskin back and wash under it and such. Good luck with everything you try!|||of course ... consult your urologist before applying any advice you develop from here...

well... since the precautionary measures are not effective to you ... (or you may try to wait a few more months before doing anything ... something might improve...) but if not .. then the last resort is circumcision...

the dorsal slitting is ... hmmm... something... but it even looks more unappealing...

make sure that you have several feedbacks for the professional who will do the circumcision for you (do not go to any non professional) ... this is a simple nonlethal procedure...

but it depends on your locality.. in some places... the doctors have performed several circumcisions already ... and thus they are more experienced in doing this... 搂

you will be able to have a more relaxed sex after several months then...|||It sounds like you%26#039;re one of the few with such a bad condition. That cream works in over 95% of cases.

Google it and you%26#039;ll find plenty of links on it.|||the other answerers have been very complete in answering, I just wanted to reassure you that the head IS supposed to be very sensitive, in circumcised men it does desensitise due to constant exposure, but they lose sensitivity. My clitoris, for example, is also very sensitive, it much prefers to be touched under its hood, but I wouldn%26#039;t wish it to be uncovered all the time or for it to be any less sensitive because its very pleasurable when the time is right ;) Also, as the others have pointed out, there are MANY less drastic surgical cures, dorsal slit and prepustioplasty are just a few of many option. Discuss it with a surgeon who is experienced in these areas and make it clear that you want to KEEP your foreskin. -Neb|||You can keep going and it might work after a while especially if you keep having sex that could loosen it.

If not there is a dorsal slit, they cut the foreksin and that loosens it, but you still have it there so your glans is protected etc. and it%26#039;s less invasive than circumcision.

I discovered i had vitiligo, september 2006, and it was diagnosed last year i was given steroid creams but....

they did not work, slowly but surely the vitiligo is starting to disappear. it is only on the left side of my face starting from above my eyebrow to my jawline, im 19 year female with no history of vitiligo in the family, my questions are;

(1)Will the vitiligo be passed on to any future children?

(2)If the vitiligo disappears, what are the chances of it returning?|||Congradulation... If your get treat vitiligo by steroid Creams.

As for as concern with the vitiligo and chance of it to return again in you or in your children research say:-

Vitiligo may be hereditary in some cases. Children of vitiligo affected parents are more likely to develop vitiligo disorder. However, most children will not get vitilgo even if a parent has it. Also most people with vitiligo do not have a family history of the disorder.

Large number of inherited disorders are associated with vitiligo. They include: albinism of the ocular type, autoimmune polyendocrinopathy syndrome, congenital deafness with vitilego and achalasia, dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria, ermine phenotype, familial histiocyctic reticulosis, kabuki syndrome, and the syndrome of spastic paraparesis, vitiligo, premature graying and characteristic facies.|||I have had vitiligo for the past twenty years. Steroid cream for eczema affects growth?

I am 15 years old

I have very bad eczema and i have been using steroid cream for 2 years... (elecon) does this mean i cannot grow anymore??????!?!?!?!|||Funny

Go see a doctor

I have heard that steroid creams (hydrocortisone) can "thin" the skin-what does this actually mean?

Is it harmful to use and over what period of time????|||Hydrocortisone is the same as the natural corticosteroid, cortisol, and is used to decrease inflammation in the skin. When applied to the skin it is absorbed into the skin cells. Here it works by preventing the release of certain chemicals from the cells. These chemicals are important in the immune system, and are released as a result of allergy or irritation. They cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the affected area of skin becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful, as is seen in dermatitis or eczema. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in the skin, hydrocortisone reduces inflammation and relieves itch.

If corticosteroids are used long-term, on large areas of skin, raw skin, skin folds, or under airtight dressings (including nappies) they are absorbed into the body more. This increases the risk of local side effects such as skin thinning, and those on other parts of the body, such as a decrease in the production of natural hormones by the adrenal glands. For this reason, continuous, long-term use of this medicine should be avoided wherever possible, particularly in children and on large areas of skin. You should only use airtight dressings over the affected area if instructed by your doctor.

Do not use this medicine for longer than seven days unless directed by your doctor.

Consult your doctor if there is no improvement in your skin after seven days, or if your skin becomes infected during treatment|||I have skin cancers and use hydrocortisone cream on the little ones(The larger ones get cut out under a local anaesthetic) the cream actually does thin the skin by removing it slowly

This is the result of sunbathing in the nude when young without sun block.|||Exactly what it says, the skin will gradually get thinner, making it more vulnerable to injury. Different parts of the body absorb it more than others, that is why you can use it on some parts of the body and have to be extra careful on others.

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/lifestyle/healt鈥?/a>|||If used over long periods of time topical steroids (steroids applied to the skin, usually in the form of a cream or ointment, and sometimes as a liquid) can thin the skin, making it appear transparent, fragile and over-susceptible to bruising. Blood vessels may also become more prominent. With time the skin can become so badly damaged that it loses its elasticity so that 鈥榮tretch marks鈥?develop. However, these effects usually only occur when potent steroids have been applied for a long time, either to the face or to covered parts of the body such as the flexures. Thinning can also occur when steroids are regularly applied under occlusion e.g. to the hands with plastic gloves or bags over and for this reason treatment of this type is limited to short periods of time under supervision of a doctor or nurse.

Hope this helps

Is there any ways to clear away ECZEMA without using steroid cream?

The corner of my mouth and below is red, dry, flaky and painful. I had this problem for 5 years now and it%26#039;s on and off. I have had been to many dermatologists and they prescribed the same stuff like hydrocortisone, fluocinolone, betamethasone etc. I depended on it regularly for the first year and the problem got cleared off. 2 years later the problem came back and I applied those creams and it went off for a period and then it came back again, it just goes on and off till the point I got very fed up and went cold turkey from steroid cream, I figured that those stuff would only darken my skin tone around my mouth. I went on trying out natural stuff like putting aloe vera etc and it only helps a bit. I%26#039;m also allergic to the steroid cream the prescribe for eczema so I went hunting for natural and cheap solutions that don%26#039;t cause adverse reactions. This is what I found:

-Soak a cotton ball in a 50/50 white vinegar and water mixture. Freeze the cotton ball (leave it in the freezer for about an hour) then dip it in the mixture once more and hold it on the area for 20-30 seconds. It stings a little at first, but it%26#039;s not that bad. Rinse it with room-temperature water and apply a lotion like Eucerine or Lubraderm (something unscented). You need to lay the lotion on thick, so it%26#039;s best to do this before bed. ::This made my eczema clear up in about 3 days, however it came back when I ate one of the foods I am allergic to::

But if you think the cream is causing problems then take him back to the doctor so they can see what the line is all about. It%26#039;s very hard not to use them though because they work quite quickly. But they are not addressing the cause of your eczema. Eczema is often cause by nutrient deficiencies - especially Omega 3 - which can be found in oily fish such as salmon.

I was told I have eczema..I broke out in an extremely itchy rash on my calves after remodeling. He concurred it was probably an allergy (to the dust or possible mold stirred up) that went to eczema.

Natural treatments I tried did not help. I want to get rid of it as it is unsightly and itchy but I am worried about potential problems.

The new doctor should take your medical history into account and either prescribe something to help keep your medical conditions in check (less preferred as this can cause problems, too) or even prescribe a different treatment for the eczema (preferred). Take Care and God Bless you.|||You know that cream will not hurt you. It will help your hands. It will keep the skin from cracking open so that you do not get an infection. It%26#039;s wise to use it. Also, try to take some zinc. This is great for the immune system and can clean chemicals out of the body that might be hiding. Also for high blood pressure take some magnesium and when you take these vitamins chew them up, instead of swallowing them whole. I hope that your doing good today Janie. I haven%26#039;t seen you in a while. Missed you girl. God Bless You.|||Hello there. Doctors know any other treatments for eczema except steroidal creams. Stay away from them. There are non-traditional (or - rather - traditional) remedies on the market. In my case the anti-eczema cream and spray from http://www.champori.com proved very effective: my skin cleared in just under 3 weeks! It is herbal (steroid-free) and works well. Try it. If it doesn%26#039;t work for you - it%26#039;s free: they offer money back guarantee.

Best,

I think a small dose of lead to the head would solve your problems in a flash. May I suggest a dosing larger than a .38? This may provide assurance that one dose is all you%26#039;ll need.

It has been my experience that you need to stop a doctor in his tracks when he seems to be indifferent and affirm yourself to him. However, considering your lack of common sense reassurance in our medical evolution on medications, I suspect you may be some sort of ever constant complainer of illnesses, (hypochondriac). In that case, if you are, please allow the REALLY ill people the chance to see a doctor and minimize your visits.

I may be wrong, however, and if so, I guess you need to start taking your medications and kicking yourself for letting things get so bad!

Penis rash and tough skin on penis after using steroid cream ?

well i guess it all started about 6 months ago when my hygiene was really bad and masterbated daily when i started to notice a red rash the skin was peeling of when it was dry and when it was wet it puffed up like a band aid like it wanted to much moisture on the left side towards the back of my penis reluctantly i went to the doc and he told me that it was just a bit of inflammation and gave me some steroid cream within days the rash was gone but during the time i was using the cream i noticed my penis was getting very stiff as in the muscle was growing if that makes sence i thought it was just the steroid cream because when i stoped using it went back to normal but the spot never really did the skin there is sort of rubbery to the touch, and now lately i have noticed that when i masturbate the day after i get 1-5 little red spots about the size of your smallest finger nail they go in a couple of days after not masturbating,oh yeah and my hygiene is much better now,my questions are why is the skin on the side so tough and what are the little red rash dots, after you finish reading this and understand it thanks |||It sounds to me like a reaction to your clothing as a rub point if you have a large penis, and you might want to check out not using fabric softener or change the type of laundry detergent that your are using.

I%26#039;m not sure what type of work you are into or what gets on your hands, but you may want to always give your hands a good soap wash B4 handling your package.

I really think that it is a contact irritation, and as your penis hangs to the right side in your pants, the left back side comes in contact with your clothing. That%26#039;s where the irritation is. when you jerk off, the flexing is the final touch to make it show sore spots which is what a reaction would look like. If you do work where you get some kind of solvent or grease in your pants, you need to be careful and change pants or underwear often because a solvent or metal heavy oils can cause cancer after prolonged contact.

You need to find the source of that contact irritation and get rid of it.

It%26#039;s really a good thing that you have a foreskin, or the head of your penis would be in contact on the left lower side.

Hope you are able to find the source, and am glad for you that you came to realize your hygiene, but it is something beyond that. I receomend as well, until you can find the source of the irritation, using vitamin E oil, as in capsules for eating. Take a capsule and do a pin prick to the end of it and apply the oil to the dry and irritated area. It will form a safe oil barrier, as well as cause softening to the irritated and toughening skin area. You still need to get rid of the source of irritation which is coming through contact with your clothing.

Hoping the best for you Man

Me! :- )|||The little red dots are the skin reacting to rough treatment. White dots are an infection that needs treating. Are you sexually active? Sorry to ask that but there%26#039;s an outside chance you may have contracted a low-grade virus or bug that under normal circumstances shows no sign of being there, but when the skin gets irritated, the bug flourishes for a little while until your penis settles down. I think it%26#039;s called %26#039;NSU%26#039;, for non-specific urethritis. Sometimes it goes away on its own, sometimes it needs antibiotics. If it%26#039;s still there after 2-3 days, go see the Doc.

Anyway... If you have a foreskin, Hygiene is crucial. Foreskins are great because the tip of the penis is protected and so much more sensitive during sex, but the downside is that it needs washing (underneath - peel it right back) twice a day, morning and night. Not too much soap or harsh soap - remember, it%26#039;s sensitive, and always make sure the soap is thoroughly washed off.

A white, soft, creamy mixture of dead skin cells, moisture, oil and other grungies (called %26#039;smegma%26#039;) is what you get if you don%26#039;t clean it. Smegma makes a perfect breeding ground for nasties. That%26#039;s usually the cause of an inflamed foreskin and sometimes causes urethritis.

Also, go and buy some KY Jelly. Masturbation is normal and natural for both genders, but the skin around both is delicate and sensitive - it doesn%26#039;t need or want rough treatment....

To be honest, I%26#039;d go get a blood test and a swab anyway. What ya got to lose?

You may have picked up some bug, and it%26#039;s best you remove that possibility. Don%26#039;t be embarrassed - it%26#039;s just another part of your body that needs care and attention!

Good Luck

Steve

Are steroid creams (Proctozone HC) effective in treating anal fissures?

I%26#039;ve had a stubborn anal fissure for awhile now. I finally went to see a gastroenterologist, who prescribed Proctozone HC (to be used internally). I%26#039;m supposed to use it for 2 weeks. But some websites say that steroid creams are ineffective in treating anal fissures. Any truth to this?

In addition to the cream, I%26#039;m trying to increase the amount of fiber I get, and am taking baths.|||I would have thought that steroids do no good at all for healing a wound. Keep your BM%26#039;s soft; that is the absolute best approach!

4 month old eczema returning with use of steroid cream?

Long story short, my 4 month old had a severe breakout of eczema, all over her torso and the rest of her (including head.)

After many trials of aveeno creams, vanicream, aquaphor, cetaphil, etc (moisturizing 4 + times a day) and less baths, changing detergent, mom is on elimination diet....

I was prescribed a .02% steroid cream for her to apply 2 times a day up to 7-10 days. I used it for four days and her skin was nearly almost clear as day. I then cut down after day 4, to only applying once a day. Two days later now, she has red appearing on the eczema spots again as if it%26#039;s starting to flare. I dont%26#039; want to keep using the cream but was I supposed to use it the entire 7 days? The pharmacist said just to use it until her rash clears which I did... but now she%26#039;s starting to spot again and I DO NOT want it to get to the point where it was a week ago.

I%26#039;m not sure if its%26#039; because i stopped the cream to only once a day or if it%26#039;s because I picked %26quot;corn%26quot; as the food to re-introduce into my diet after the elimination trial I have been on (no soy, dairy, nuts, corn, egg, wheat, etc.)|||I%26#039;m a holistic nutritionist, not a doctor (therefore no diagnosing or treating) but because you are asking at least partly a nutrition question . . .I%26#039;ll jump in here! Corn is one of the most allergenic foods and can be quite problematic with skin issues, particularly eczema. I would suggest eliminating it again and seeing if things clear up (and maybe leaving it and soy and diary out for a longer period of time).

You may want to talk to the pharmacist to clear up any misunderstanding re: the cream you are using as well.

As well, if you are using other products on your baby%26#039;s skin, some of those products may be making things worse. If they have synthetic chemicals (i.e. parabens), the ingredients can provoke a response in the skin or make the skin drier. You may want to check EWG%26#039;s Skin Deep Data Base and check out any products you are using on their rating system to see if maybe switching to a natural or certified organic product for baby%26#039;s sensitive/dry skin might help (I like Miessence%26#039;s Mother and Baby Range).

Finally, eczema is often at least partially a response to an essential fatty acid deficiency. Be sure you are getting enough omega 3 (i.e. salmon, flax or cod liver) and healthy omega 6 oils (i.e. evening primrose) each day (you can even poke open capsules of each and rub them on your baby%26#039;s skin.

Good luck and be persistent. Eczema can be a pain to deal with but sounds like you are determined to do what it takes. Good job!|||What kind of laundry detergent do you use? It might not be caused by anything you eat, but by the detergent you use on her clothes. Try something that is labeled %26quot;free and clear%26quot; of fragrances and dyes.

To cut the story short I found something that kind of cleared away the problem but it only lasted for 9 months and now the problem is back again.

Am I doomed to use back steroid cream?

Is steroid cream the only way to clear the redness and pain at the corner of my mouth and chn area?

Can moisturizer alone repair the skin condition and clear away the redness? I%26#039;ve tried many from Aveeno to La Roche-Posay with not much success. Now trying california baby botanical moisturizing cream.

The only facial wash I use is Cetaphil gentler cleanser.

I%26#039;m getting frustrated and depressed and I hope somebody could answer this. :( I have done food allergy test and skin test before, I am not allergic to any food, and the skin test result was I%26#039;m allergic to a fragrance called Lyral.|||My dermatologist told me not to use the steroid cream on my face, it is too harsh. Have you tried Elidel? It%26#039;s not a steroid and it%26#039;s safe to use on the face.|||Recently I read a study about the treatment of eczema by the use of bleach. It was dumbfounding that bleach which is commonly used in laundry can treat eczema, a chronic skin disease. Studies say that as many as one in five school-aged children have eczema, medically known as atopic dermatitis that affects youngsters鈥?appearance, sleep and their ability to concentrate in school and in public place.

Robert Brodell, a professor of internal medicine and dermatology at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine, says dermatologists have been working on the treatment of eczema for about 20 years, but this is the first scientific study on the topic. This article gives the recommendations from the study:

Doctor recommended putting a small amount of steroid cream on pimples?

I have a big event to go to this Saturday with my husband, and this morning I woke up to THREE jumbo zits on my face!! In such emergencies as this I usually go to my doctor who does a steroid injection and they are gone overnight, but my doctor was booked up and instead prescribed me a steroid cream (the same my daughter uses for her eczema) and said to put a small amount on the affected area. Two of the 3 pimples already popped accidently when I was washing my face, so I don%26#039;t know if that is a good or bad thing either. Will this work as well as the injections? Has anyone else ever done this?||| I am sure the shots would work better since they go under the skin and the cream is a topical, which might take a little longer but in the end have the same results. For your special night, there is a quick fix to get you through the night. Preparation %26quot;H%26quot;! Thats right. Just like it shrinks hemmoroids, it will shrink the bump/zit and make it less noticeable. |||I myself have never used a steroid creme for zits, but I have a friend who does, and she swears that it works really well to get rid of pimples.|||No it will not be as good as the injections but it can work. Don%26#039;t worry if some have popped because there is nothing you can do about it. But never try to pop a zit. It only cause inflammation which will take longer to heal.

Call and ask you doctor if they have samples of either Duac or something similar. (Ziana or Differin) Those should help dry those pimples up fairly quickly. Only use a tiny amount on the pimple only, as they can dry the skin and cause flaking.

Good luck and have fun!

Where can I get more poison ivy steroid cream?

Loved|||Steroid medications are prescribed by a doctor. I had hydrocortisone topical ointment for a bad rash on my hand, but it was given to me by a doctor.

Is it dangerous for an infant using steroid cream and aquaphor to put hands in her mouth?

My 5 month old daughther gets eczema very badly on her hands and face. My Dr. switched her to Alimentum and prescribed steroid cream. The Alimentum is not controlling it, it comes back if i don%26#039;t apply once a day, although her face is cleared up and only needs the cream once a week or so. The alimentum is agreeing with her, no gassiness or acid reflux anymore. however, i put the steroid cream onher hands at night and i use aquaphor a lot during the day and my daughters hands are always in her mouth. tried covering them, not an option...is it dangerous for the cream and aquaphor to be on her hands that are in her mouth. has anyone tried Nutramigem instead of Alimentum for a situation similar to this.....When its bad on herhands she itches them and they puss and bleed. Thanks|||call the doctor and or the pharmacy for best results.

good luck, that must be very hard for you both.|||I would talk to the doc about it .

I think I have Phimosis...any steroid cream alternative?

I%26#039;m 18 years old, and jsut recently realized that I have phimosis. My foreskin is EXTREMELY tight at the end, as in it%26#039;s not uncomfortable at ALL but the hole at the end is very small. I can%26#039;t even get it to retract over a quarter of the head. I don%26#039;t want to try something crazy like just attempt to stretch it fast, as I don%26#039;t want to end up with paraphimosis.

I read that there are steroid creams that doctors can prescribe which are effective in curing this over 90% of the time. Are there any alternatives? I%26#039;d rather not talk to my parents about this (anything like this is extremely taboo in my household)...and I%26#039;d rather not see a doctor as I%26#039;m not sure how my insurance and everything works (so I don%26#039;t want it to be charged and have my folks find out).

What I basically need is an over-the-counter alternative cure for my condition...any help is greatly appreciated!|||Well the best bet would be to talk to your parents, If they are immature and don%26#039;t want to talk to it about you than that is a bad example upon you. if you don%26#039;t want to talk to a doctor then try a friend and get them to come to the doctor with you so its less awkward. no one in this discussion can stick there hand through the computer and hand you any kind of cream, you have to check with a doctor, don%26#039;t be embarrassed about it, at least it%26#039;s nothing like you have car keys stuck up your *** or something like that :P.

Best of Luck,

-Logan :)|||I think hydrocortisone cream is the one you can buy from a general store which works almost as effective as the one doctors prescribe.|||Cool, go see the chemist.|||You do want to stretch it. You can%26#039;t just put the cream on it and it will fix everything. No you HAVE to do stretching along with the cream use.

And you can%26#039;t get a cream without a doctor. Steroid creams MUST be prescription.

The only thing you can do is lightly stretch it out over time. Get a full erection and then pull the skin as far back as you can WITHOUT pain and hold it there for 5 mins and then do that 3 times a day.

Honestly if you are 18 years old and can%26#039;t do this on your own because you are scared of your parents knowing it%26#039;s time to grow up a little. Seriously, you need to approach them and just say something. There are worse things you could have to tell your parents

Dermatitis around anal area. Using steroid cream but I think food is causing it. Maybe milk and cheese?

Dr. said I have dermatitis around anal area. Going on for 5 months and I am beginning to think the cause is milk, cream, and foods with lactose. I haven%26#039;t been able to tolerate milk for years but I went on a diet and started to eat a lot of low fat ice cream, skinny cows, creamer in coffee, cottage cheese, low fat cheese and I think I overdid it. I use steroid cream now and desitin which seems to help but it never goes completely away. Anyone else out there hear of this?|||Have you tried non allergenic toilet paper?|||Don%26#039;t use the steroid cream for too long; your skin will thin and become dependent on it. You can use the desitin forever if you need to.

If it is caused by the milk products, you may have experienced some diarrhea when you ate them. That might cause some irritation to the skin.

Try lactose pills if you must eat dairy. Better yet, find something else to eat for your diet.

If you avoid dairy for about a week, you should notice an improvement.

Get some live acidophilus (the kind that must be refrigerated) from a health food source. That will help normalize your digestive tract, too, thus eliminating some of the irritation.

Good luck.

Has anyone used a topical steroid cream?

maybe this title will get answers instead .

has anyone used locoid ointment or any other type of locoid ??? answer asap !?

i used locoid ointment for one week on a lot of dry cracked broken skin on my face (i think it was a misdiagnosis of sebhorreic dermatitis) and my skin has gone haywire ever since ! it%26#039;s better than it was a couple of months ago but my skins just not the same as it used to be ... im breaking out and my skins weirdly dry, tight, and oily at the same time :( whats happening, and has it happened to anyone else ??|||you sound like you had an alergic reaction, tell the doctor that you want to try selenium sulfide, it help with what you have, as for you face to help it from cracken or hurting, try some benadryl cream, and dont use alchole pads to clean it

Worst case poison ivy, Prednisone, steroid shot & topical steroid cream - is the cure worse than the problem?

I%26#039;m 45 and this was my worst case of poison ivy. I had an extra pack of the 5-day pills and started taking them when I got home from the exposure. A week later, it was horrible, oozing, major blisters all over my legs and arms, a little on my face. Finally went to the doctor on 7th, she was sympathetic, gave me a shot, a 12-day step-down of Prednisone - 6 for 2 days, 5 for 2 days, 4 for 2 days, 3/2/1, along with the topical steroid to apply to the wounds. After a few days I had my second menstral cycle of this month :-( Then extreme joint pain in my left ankle one night. Last night I woke up at 3:30 in extreme pain, had to get up and almost couldn%26#039;t carry my weight on that leg, ankle and knee joint pain. I have 2 days left at 1 pill each day. I am reading all of these negative things and wonder if it would have been better to suffer the poison ivy !! I should finish the last 2 days, right? And will the joint pain stop waking me? Can I take Benadryl safely to sleep?|||You can absolutely take the Benadryl. It%26#039;ll actually help with the histamine reaction from the poison ivy. And you most certainly want to wash your hands every time you touch your body because that%26#039;s probably how the poison ivy spread so crazy. Also you might want to use Caladryl lotion (half calamine, half benadryl) on it. Witch hazel may help dry out and crust over the poison ivy too. You can also try bathing in Aveeno oatmeal baths. When I had poison Ivy as a kid, I remember those baths feeling so good on my skin. I hope you feel better soon and the side effects of the prednisone will be over soon. It%26#039;s best to wean completely off them than to stop abruptly.|||I would think it would be safe to take the Benadryl. I would call your doctor though asap. You may be having a reaction to the prednisone. I don%26#039;t think you should be feeling joint pain with poison ivy. There is something definatly wrong there. Good Luck and please dont wait. Maybe go to ER. Don%26#039;t take a chance.

Can I use steroid cream on a rash around my new tattoo?

I got a wonderful new tattoo 5 days ago, and it is healing nicely with one exception. The tattoo itself looks great, is even almost thru the healing process, but I have developed a rash around one side of it- the rash looks similar to a sunburn and is very itchy- but it is not on the actual tattoo at all. I went by the studio, and turns out my artist is on vacation. Another artist in hte same studio suspected it was a reaction to the lubriderm I was using, so I switched to cocoa butter, but this made no difference. I have some steroid cream I have used for poison ivy and various things in the past, and am wondering if I can use this, or if it will harm my new tat. This is my 5th tattoo, no new colors- I know color ingredients vary, but I have never been allergic to anything in my life, and I am pretty sure if it were an ink allergy the actual tattooed area would be having a problem. Thanks for any advise!!|||You could always go to your doctor and get a steroid shot instead. It%26#039;ll work just as well, and you won%26#039;t have to worry about any bad reaction to your tattoo from any topical cream.|||absolutely not.

i suggest A%26amp;D which you can find in the baby section of any store. not to mention the fact that most tattoo shops will suggest that you use that on your tattoo as well.

A%26amp;D will help heal rash, burns and so on so it is a good remedy for both you and your tattoo.|||Hell No!! the best thing to use is Aquaphor it is awesome and speeds the healing. Just make sure you are washing the tat with soap and a very THIN layer of Aquaphor and in about a week you will be good to go..... I have 8 tat%26#039;s currently.|||I wouldn%26#039;t, it could pull the color out.

As far as Lubriderm being the culprit, that is doubtful,.. and evidenced by the fact that there was no change when switching to cocoa butter. (both products should be safe and you should not have any reaction to either)

I would keep it clean with antibacterial soap, clean paper towels, and a light coating of moisturizer (unscented, mild, maybe something for babies, but not a petroleum product)

You are past the worst of the fresh healing part, if you can tough it out until closer to 2 weeks, I think your tat will be o.k., and then you can use something for the rash if you still have it.

Use ice, and Ibuprophen and/or benedril. Good luck.
