Can herpes be treated with the steroid creams typically used for eczema?

I have had a mild eczema for a few years now and have been treating it with a mild steroid cream. I%26#039;ve been reading about herpes simplex and am wondering if it%26#039;s possible that I have this virus? The supposed eczema patches are treated extremely well with the cream I use so I%26#039;m pretty sure it%26#039;s not herpes, but rather eczema.
